Racon Radar Beacon
The Racon Radar Beacon, commonly known as a Racon, is a radar transponder used in maritime navigation to enhance the identification of navigational aids or landmarks on a ship's radar display. When a ship's radar signal hits the Racon, it responds by transmitting a distinctive coded signal back to the radar. This signal creates a unique Morse code-like pattern on the radar screen, helping navigators accurately identify the beacon's location, even in poor visibility. Racon beacons are often installed on lighthouses, buoys, or other critical navigation points to ensure safe passage for vessels.
